Investing in human capital will reap vast rewards for under-represented communities and for YOU. Be your best self by aligning your values with your philanthropy and creating a philanthropic plan for you and your family.
Meet sharon
I am an independent philanthropy advisor with more than 30 years of experience working for educational and social service nonprofits in Oregon. My goal is to help families and grantors move resources sooner rather than later to under-resourced communities. I coach families to use money to level playing fields and create opportunities; facilitate philanthropy discussions framed within purpose, outcome, and process; and help clients find joy in giving by creating values-based philanthropic plans.
I'm my best self when I'm helping others be their best selves, believe every person brings value to the table, and learn from people who are different from me. I'm certified in philanthropy advising by 21/64, a leader in multi-generational philanthropic advising and training. I'm a graduate of the Beegle Poverty Immersion Institute; earned an anti-racism certificate of completion from Resolutions Northwest; am a student of community-centric fundraising; and learn something new every day in my equity journey. I have a degree in journalism from the University of Oregon.
I advised donors for eight years as the senior development officer for SMART Reading, Oregon’s largest children’s literacy nonprofit. Before that, I invested 14 years at Lewis & Clark College in planned giving and major gifts; was a fundraising consultant for four years training hundreds of nonprofits in Oregon; have guided the philanthropy of families in preschool, elementary, secondary, junior and four-year college environments; raised private investments to complement public funding to assist families achieve self sufficiency as chief advancement officer at Community Action of Washington County; and have found joy and purpose by fighting poverty, not the children and families living in it.
I raised my family in Portland and continue to reside here; love to travel and eat; and enjoy walk and talks with clients.
